When the Eaton Fire tore through Altadena, California, it left devastation in its wake — 5,200 acres burned, homes destroyed, and lives forever changed. But for Antoinette Raines, this was more than a wildfire. It was the loss of her family’s home, her sister’s house, and her aunt, who tragically perished that night.
Yet, in the ashes, Antoinette found purpose.
Determined to help her community rebuild, she stepped up with Team Rubicon, joining 86 Greyshirt volunteers in Altadena. Over the course of a week-long operation, they provided aid to 2,893 people —proving that in the wake of disaster, service is the greatest act of resilience.
For #Altadena, the fire wasn’t just about losing homes—it was about mourning a legacy of hope and opportunity for the Black community. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we honor heroes like U.S. military veteran Antoinette Raines, who answered the call in the wake of the #LAFires — standing strong for her hometown when it needed her most.
Watch how one woman’s strength, and a team of volunteers, are helping Altadena rise again.
